What Do You Do With Your Lemons?

"When life gives you lemons....make lemonade"

Oi...I thought about that little diddy all day long...ironically, I'm allergic to citrus, so lemonade would give me a migraine. I've changed it to better suite my life..."When life gives you lemons...go to Starbucks!"
~*~Everyone who knows me, just rolled their eyes :-) and no, my picture has nothing to do with lemons. I just thought it was pretty.

So, yesterday I told you about my really terrible horrible no good very bad day and I hung out with all of my lemons. I felt sorry for myself, had a pity party, talked my mom's ear off and then spent the rest of my day with my bff. We literally sat on the couch chatting until the sun began to go down and we slowly turned into shadows as she shared her vacation stories that included almost drowning in the ocean, while trying to take a picture for a friend.

We cried together (not about her almost drowning) and we laughed (also, not about her almost drowning) but, the best part had to be the laughing.
We laughed...
We laugh all the time...
We laughed the entire time we spent together!
We even talked about laughing...specifically, the effect of hearing the laughter of someone you love. After she left, I conjured up the recent sound of Mark laughing in his room, I mean a real belly laugh and it sounded so wonderful. Then, a few days ago, Mark and I were talking and something we said hit us both and we couldn't stop laughing! He was in pain, holding his newly healing stomach and that made everything even more funny.

Why is it, that when you can't laugh, things seem more funny?

Well, I laughed out loud, to myself as I thought about laughter... and yesterdays complaints dissipated. So, I have decided to change, yet again, the lemon statement...

"When life gives you lemons...laugh... and then drink the beverage of your choice from a cup like this"..........(thank you dear sweet Lisa ;-) and thank you all for being so kind to listen to my ranting, that eventually turned into laughter. Your wonderful words helped to get me there!

It's been awhile since I have commented, but I have read when I have been able. I am finally starting to feel better after being off work for three weeks. Hopefully by next week, I will be well enough to go back to work.

I have read with great joy to see all of Mark's progress and success. I have also felt such sorrow at all the pain you have taken upon yourself. Life and Lemons seems to be a constant refrain lately.

Mmmmmmm A cup of bead soup?

Beautiful cup for a beautiful lady.

So glad you could spend the close of day like that. How wonderful. It reminds me of when I was a little girl, having my cousin over to stay, and giggling until the wee hours. Getting absolutely drunk without a drop of alcohol is such a precious gift. May we never loose it!

A toast to laughter, and all who sail in her..... or something like that.

Sending you and yours love from me and mine,

Annie

Hey Darlene! I've just been catching up on your posts and the "Elephant" post caught my attention.

"(Sometimes) I wonder what the hell is there left for me to do...to accomplish."

You have such powerful stories and experiences. I think it would be so wonderful if they could reach a broader audience. Have you ever considered writing a book?

A few years ago my husband was misdiagnosed with epilepsy and it was such a frightening and unknown road down the path of "chronic illness". We struggled with this mis-diagnosis for a year and a half before we were blessed with a "cure". He had a severe heart condition that was causing him to black out and a pacemaker has solved the problem.

A real and authentic voice of someone who has gone down that path that chooses not to wallow in the gunk but is honest about the bad days, would have been an encouragement during that time. You are such a gifted writer and I have been so encouraged and blessed by your spirit. If nothing else, you have a powerful effect on your blog readers, so please keep writing!

There have been studies done about the good effects of laughter - I've actually heard you should try to laugh at least once a day. Sometimes it's hard to do. Being able to sit and laugh like that with your bff was the best medicine. A good old fashioned belly laugh until you almost can't catch your breath....priceless. I am delighted dear, sweet Darlene that you had those moments and I hope you have many more. Pity Parties are essential even if you're the only one in attendance, you have to be able to feel whatever it is.
I am glad you received and like the cup.
I hope you have more moments/days of laughter dear Darlene.
XOXOXO
Love,
Lisa

Laughter has always saved my sanity. Really! I think one of the reasons my mom and I were able to make it through all the crud, was because we could ALWAYS make eachother laugh!

And I have read that it raises your energy vibration, too. Must be something to it.

Love that cup!

Laughter is essential. My husband and I have a habit of making up silly songs as we get ready for work each morning. Sharing laughter and focusing on fun is always a good start to our day.

Laughing is so good. Laughing with a BFF is even better. There have been times that my hubby and I have watched a movie that at other times would have been totally stupid, but was what we needed at the time to blow off steam.

When life gives me lemons I make some kind of creation out of the art stuff I have lying around the house.

Glad to hear that you had a good day yesterday.

As usual, you are so right! Laughter really does make it easier to handle life when it seems like elephants aren't just in the middle of the room but coming down the stairs, standing in the doorway...

Bless your BFF for helping stir up the joy in you!
