California Burning

this chair waits for my husbands body at the end of the day
it surrounds him with comfort
conforms to his shape
and often cradles him during a nap
it is chairs like this, that represent home
to so many different families

There is a slight haze in the air surrounding this part of California. I am well away from all the fires and live in the Northern part, but it is still my State that is in peril, closer to precious family members and friends and I feel the heaviness inside my heart. All of our local stations are covering this disaster, news channels are discussing it as their main subject and they keep showing the complete neighborhoods that have been burned to the ground. An entire town is gone from one end to the other. This morning, they found 2 bodies, a couple that refused to evacuate their home...so so sad.

Our homes don't go to heaven with us and the bible even describes Earthly goods as rubble, in comparison to love that is eternal, but I can't help to believe the great loss that all of these families are feeling. My huge television is showing the sad crying faces of the Californians involved, their bravery is amazing...and I look over at my husbands chair and at all the 'things' that represent home to me, safe and untouched by tragedy...and I pray for all of those, whose security has been burned to the ground and turned into rubble.

It's on the news here as well and i've seen the reports on cnn. I've been thinking what a home means to me and what i would do in a similar situation. But i guess you can't know for sure until you're in it. All we can do is pray and help those in need.

Oh Darlene, you said this so beautifully. My heart is feeling the same thing as I look around my home and feel the comfort of comfy chairs, Molly sleeping on the couch, sun shining outside. My life is good, and I stand humbled as I see those faces you mention on the TV. Thank you for saying it so tenderly for all of us.
I love you Dar
Wanda Mom :)
PS Thank you for giving me permission to rest! XOXOXO

You have such colorful writing. It's so easy to picture what I am reading.

I hope they can stop the fire and that the winds die down. I heard that it may have been caused by an arsonist. If that's true, I hope whoever did this pays for it. All that needless damage. When things like this happen, it makes you appreciate what you have. Sending prayers to all those who lost their homes.

I almost feel guilt as I do what you are doing. I've lived through summers in the forest and worried about fire. My heart and Prayers are with all the displaced people who are going back to lost pet and no homes! Our nations heart breaks with yours. We are with you in this struggle!

Dearest Darlene,

We went through this in Canberra a few years ago and lost 500 homes.

When it's 3.00pm in the afternoon and it is quite literally pitch black, and you're standing with a hose in your hand putting water in your homes gutters - well, it makes you think of the important things. Like the fact that a house and everything in it can be replaced, but your family cannot.

But, it can also make you feel incredibly helpless when you come through just fine, but all around you is loss.

Stay safe. Sending many prayers for victims of the fires.

Love Annie

It is so terrible to see this because it does indeed make you think..yes they are "things" but they are the things that are our home and our comfort...and it is devastating to see people loose those two vital parts of their life.

love to you.xoxo

I felt this way when there was a fire in Lake Tahoe... and now. I think that you have posted what many are feeling.

So far my aunt is safe. But, I can't help but think of so many others who have lost so much.

My hubby just got back form Sacremento last Sunday evening. He had business in California and then took a fun day to drive up to Yosemite for some hiking and photo ops. It's always sad to see people lose everything. Living here in Tornado Alley, Texas thos eimages are all too familiar!
