Split

you wound
a slow growth
stretched over time
dry skin forced apart
split and exposed
a vulnerable center

you hurt
and feel bare
weather beaten
weak places give way
no longer safe
a vulnerable center

you know
a rich balm
abides inside
veils meant to protect
golden warm seal for
a vulnerable center

you heal

When I was in a creative writing class in college, one student said they did not want to write poetry because their's always sounded depressing and the professors response was, "Some of the best poetry comes from our four main emotions; joy, love, hate & sadness. Where do you fit in when writing poetry and why?

I love this word also "HEAL"

This spoke to me and brought back descriptions and feelings of early experiences with Mark's accident and the continuing process of finding good health for those of us less fortunate to feel well.

Love to you Honey

What an interesting poem. Last night, my prayer for you, Mark, hubby and sis was for total healing. Especially for you and Mark.

As to your question - my best poetry has always been about real events from my life. The majority of those events that send me to my writing used to be the ones that hurt. But a few of my best have been celebrations of goodness in my life. So I think I've traveled the spectrum of poetry motivation.

Love from Texas...Lynette

for me I generally find myself putting pen to paper at times of extreme emotion -on either end of the scale.

Such a sexy photo...and beautiful, healing words. Thank you for all that you share with us, Darlene.

Usually my poetry is inspired by nature...and of course love!

The thought just struck me, that writing poetry from the emotions of pain and anger is a way of expelling those emotions from your system. Writing from the emotions of love and joy does just the opposite.

There is a part of us that lets us know when it is time to expel the negative energy and draw the positive to us.

Your poetry does just that, in my humble opinion. Another fantastice thing about it is that we, your cyber-family, get to experience it along with you. We have the option to send you additional love and hope and strength to continue the good fight.

So, dear Darlene, keep on truckin'. There is another huge load of postivie energy coming your way. Why, just look at all of the comments stating just that. Our best to Mark and the rest of the family.

We shall overcome.

Most of our greatest poets and writers wrote their best pieces, when depressed or when in some kind of emotional turmoil, think Stevie Smith,Virginia Woolf et al,I think at these times, our emotions really come to the surface, mine sure do!

Awesome poem.

For me poetry allows me to paint my emotional experience with words.

Lots of love your way, Darlene. JP

I write almost no poetry, but when I do, I'm totally amazed by how uplifted and soaring it is. I swear that when I write poetry, none of it is from me. I'm totally used and simply an instrument. I also find that once in a great while a poem will come popping out that is so weighty with either wisdom or danger it frightens me to the core. I'd say I'm not a poet, but when I am it is the univeral longings of the soul that come out.

a vulnerable center... the center is the deep place that cannot be described but which we can only attempt to portray with poetry.
Love this!

Interesting question. People have asked me why my writing is so dark, and i have to ask them what they have read lately and which part of it was not dark. I am a very happy hopeful person and I guess my writing has been where I put my dark stuff and transformit into something beautiful, art, I hope.

I don't write poetry - is there something wrong with me?! ;) I love other people's poetry though, and perhaps I should try...
Thank you for the inspiration, Darlene. Healing Hugs on their way...

I agree with turquoise, HEAL is a beautiful word.
Actually its a miracle process. I was thinking about a cut on your finger. First the ouch, the blood, we pat it, kiss it, put a bandaid on it, and the next day..wow healing has already begun. A couple days later, a scab. Wow, another little miracle. And IF we leave the scab alone, and don't pick it iff, in a few more days the scab pops off and there is that beautiful brand new pink skin. In life, I think the hardest part in healing, it not picking at the scab. It makes the healing take longer. How I love you, and the process of YOUR healing is just another of God's miracles.
Love you forever.
