The Great Ones Play Hurt...

Being that today is Super Bowl Sunday, my entire neighborhood participates. Angela's husband makes the GREATest BBQ. All the men gather together to watch the game in a TV ready garage. Cars get moved and portable chairs come out and the "Garage Dad's" begin their yearly ritual. This morning as our TV was turned on, football past, present and future permeated every channel in some manner or another and I heard this quote, "The Great Ones Play Hurt."

As I looked around at my little nook in the family room where I can be with everyone and work at the same time, I resonated with the words. Often, when I am feeling under par, I still have to be creating something with my hands. I may be hurting, but the concentration that it takes to make a necklace, bracelet or a pair of earrings is slowly distracted away into what is being manipulated in my hands.

I enjoy what I do and its lulling nature gives me a space to meditate, say prayers and think beautiful positive things, that I hope is felt when someone dons any of my wares. None of this ever feels like work, it feels like play, so that word being part of the quote, caused it to stand out and I smiled. I know they were referring to 'football' players, but I thought it could be said of many others..."The Great Ones Play Hurt" and today I'm feeling pretty great.

That fits you. Speaks of power. ;)

I also like to do things with my hands to take my mid somewhere. Paint little things, draw, bead...I just don't do it often enough anymore!

I hope you have a great day, sweet D.

Wow, Darlene that does not surprise me about you--the intent you put in to your jewlery making. I know a henna tattu artiist who does exactly that as she applies the beautifully intricate henna designs on to her clients. She will usually ask the person first if that is OK and if so what intent she wants from the design and she then meditates, prays, transmits positive thoughts as she draws each delicate line with the henna. Take care and I hope you feel better soon.

Good Super Sunday Morning to you, my dear. I'm so glad your neighbors have a super bowl party. How fun! Will Mark be able to attend? I pray he is continuing to heal daily. Yes, the great ones do play hurt. That's why you are in my Hall of Fame. And yes, when I am wearing one of my Darlene necklaces or earrings, there is a special bonding between those beads that gently touch my skin, and your strength which touches my heart.
I love you every day!

You should feel great because you are. I recieved the most awesome little necklace in my mailbox and I must say I love it. It reminds me of the sea and when I am not wearing it it hangs on a thumb tack that holds a pic of Mark that is right by my computer to remind me everytime I sit down here to say a little prayer for him. Of course some of them turn into rather long winded ones but God listens all the same.

Thank you my wonder*filled creative friend.

xoxo,
Sheila

I'll add a pic to my blog for you

I'm the same way; doing something that takes my concentration always helps. I used to love doing jigsaw puzzles as a child, and whenever I do one now it always helps me zone out whatever else is bugging me physically or mentally.

I hope all of you (including Mark) enjoy the game; I'm not into the play by play but I like to see the crazy commercials.

Your jewelry is lovely. This post almost has me visualizing you doing a rosary as you make your necklaces.

Every bead a prayer.

Your jewelry must be beautiful - you put so much love and intention into it :)

I'm just starting to dabble in beading, because I love beaded jewelry so much, and I'm finding it really relaxing to just play with color and texture - only wish I had more time to do it.

It's wonderful to hear you say you're feeling great - it must be such a joy to be doing something as simple as watching a football game, after all you've been through!

I feel the same way about doing something with my hands even when I don't feel 100%. It is such a pressure release for me even if my hands don't want to cooperate with my brain is telling them to do. We continue to pray for Mark and for your body to rejuvenate.

Sweet friend I love your need to create.
As I wear your necklace and feel the love and time you put into making it for me, each link, each bead meticulously placed in alignment with your precious hands. It adorns my neck and warms my Heart.
Love you Darb. Please give Mark an extra squeeze(gently) from me.

Beautiful quote--whoever said it very likely didn't mean it to be applicable across a whole life...but I resonate with these words too. I think they perfectly capture where you are and I hope your creations continue to take shape.

Darlene, you are always GREAT in my book. You have also discoverd the therapeutic effect of doing something that you love, creating jewelry.

You have learned that what you give out you get back many-fold.

Hope the group had a wonderful time and the game ended the way the wanted. If not, there is always next year.

In the meantime keep on playing.

That is a great quote isn't it.

And I like what you say about putting prayers and positive thoughts into the things you make. I think people can feel that! (It's something I try to do when I create things too.)

I haven't been at the puter much in the past week or so, but you're in my thoughts, Darlene.

Dearest Darlene,

So glad to hear that you have a place where you can create and still be part of the family.

I thought of you staight away when I saw this quote in the latest edition Somerset Studio yesterday:

"I get up
I walk
I fall down
Meanwhile,
I keep dancing"

Keep creating those beautiful pieces. They truly are stunning and serve such awesome dual purposes.

I hope Mark is continuing to heal and the Lupus/Vegus nerve leave you in peace.

With love from Down Under from the Morris Family
