Update #13

This is Marks puppy named Breezy. He misses her a bunch and I'm sure that Breezy misses him back. Mark knows that it is Christmas day and he feels bad for ruining it for everybody.
His fever has gone up again and they opened his 1 1/2 foot scar to drain all the dead tissue that is causing a skin infection.
They are actually going to leave it open and let it heal that way. The only thing the nurse said was that it was going to be a nasty scar. At least he's alive.
He has developed pneumonia and they are isolating the bacteria because it is a resistant kind of pneumonia.
We are exhausted and I am battling a lupus flare. People are helping us out wonderfully. We are having meals made for us and that is a great help.
Mark will need a hernia wall put in under his muscles. This will be done a s a p.
He is more coherent today and does not want us to leave his side.
The good news, is that his CT Scan came back normal and his body is not reacting with all the transfusions and he is not creating blod clots. Yeah!
I hope you all had a Merry Christmas :)
I love you all so much....what would I do without you?! I can't even imagine that!

Yes!! Signs of miracles are showing.

Quick hello and am so glad to hear Mark sounds like he is getting a little better. I bet if you could sneak Breezy in the hospital it would help him with his recovery. :)

Love ya!

May God Bless You and Yours today!

So glad the CT scan came back normal and he is not developing clots. The open incision is probably a good idea for the healing.

You all must be so exhausted. I know lupus flares can be bad, and I know its' impossible right now to take care of yourself the way you need to. Lots of prayers going out.

Thanks for the update.

Some good news today, at least...sounds like things are moving toward the better. Maybe as soon as he's out of ICU they would let you bring Breezy for a visit? Lots of hospitals recognize the importance of pets in helping patients heal.

This must have been a hard Christmas for all of you. Just keep in mind the celebration you can have when Mark is well enough to come home. It will happen!

Sending love and prayers every day...

My children arrived this afternoon--very late and with much confusion over lost baggage and all, but safe. They couldn't understand my lack of frustration until I told them about Mark and how he and you have reminded me of what's important.

We all wanted to check on him and on you before gathering in prayer. United, we hope our spirits will reach across the miles to comfort you and your family. We will give thanks for the clear CT scan and send healing intentions for Mark.

All we truly have in this world is love.

I was thinking the same thing that Theresa said...any way of sneaking in Breezy? It would be very theraupetic... It is great to hear that the CT Scan came back normal!!! On the other hand I'm sorry to hear about the pneumonia and your lupus :( More prayers coming your way...stay strong and take care of yourself also. God bless. xo glo

You sound so calm, Darlene. It really is amazing. And makes me admire you even more.

I am so pleased to hear that Mark is more clear-headed and the results of his tests have been good. This is such great news!

There are so many procedures to be done. Each step must be so hard. I feel so grateful that you have people around you caring for you and your family.

Breezy is gorgeous. I can just picture his wagging tail and smiling eyes the day he sees Mark come home.

We'll be with you and Mark all along his path to recovery.

Love,
Vanessa

And sending you much love and support from Australia.

Mark's healing is a slow process but he is getting well. And my heart is filled with gladness (and relief) to know that he is on is way to health.

You are always in my thoughts Darlene.

Darlene,

When I awoke this morning, I found my first thoughts were of you and your family even though I don't know y'all. My heart has just ached all day for what has happened. Life is just so unfair at times.

But I'm so glad to hear there are improvements and good signs coming to y'all on Christmas. Prayers are being answered day by day.

Just try to imagine how many prayers have been sent out for all of your family! And they will keep going out from me here in Atlanta....

Blessings to you today. I prayed that someone at the hospital would make the day special for your family somehow. Take care my friend! :)

Breezy is too cute, he looks like my Beagle Brownie.

I am soooo relieved that his CT scan was normal and there is no clotting. I am looking forward to more and more good news.

What a hard thing to have happen at Christmas, but just think of the celebrating that will happen when he is well enough to come home.

A few years ago one of my best friends was in a terrible accident. He was walking down the street when this kid drove up onto the sidewalk and ran into him, pushing him through a store front window and pinning him to a wall. He had many many injuries and it was very touch and go for a while... That was a week before his wedding. While he was in the hospital there was miracle after miracle and he was able to come home a few weeks before they had predicted. The day he came out of the hospital he got married and now several years later he is doing just fine.

Mark is a strong man and he will walk out of there sooner than everyone thinks and he will do just fine :)

Thank you for the updates, Now that I have a computer again I will be checking alot.

Hi there - that happened to my Dad. They had to leave his wound open. They packed it with gauze and it shrunk around the gauze - gross, but it worked and now he has a nice big scar to show off! Please give my love to Denise and Carston and the rest of your family and tell Den. to hug you from me and vise versa! I'm keeping a prayer in my heart for all of you!

Hi Darlene - This is my first time posting here. I just finished reading about your son's accident from the beginning, and I just cannot stop crying. From mom to mom, my heart aches for you.

I'm glad that he is showing some signs of progress. The power of prayer, love and positivity will pull him through this. I will keep him and your family in my thoughts and meditations.

Sending you hugs, Bella.

Such good news about the CAT scan and transfusions! And if this is the way to get that wound to heal, so be it.

Mark's beagle is a real cutie. I'm glad to hear that your day-to-day life is being made a bit easier with the help of food and other kindnesses from those close to you there. I hope those things will allow you to rest a bit more to keep the lupus at bay.

Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

I hope you are not feeling alone over this Christmas period. The first thing I did when I returned from Christmas Day with my family was check your uppdates.

It really did make my heart sing that Mark wanted to hug you. I send him a hug and one for each of his family as well - especially you.

A big head scratch for the adorable Breezy too.

You are not alone, eventhough you are carrying this massive burden.

Christmas night and checking in to see how you all were doing...
So many people have picture/video phones these days, perhaps you could get one or borrow one and get a video clip of Mark's puppy.
My whole family's good thoughts are still with you.

Well, he sounds better, at least. The fever is s good sign that his body is fighting back, right? That is what I always heard... And he is more aware, and wants his family. I think that is good, too. he knows what he needs.

I thought of you guys a lot throughout the day... Thank you for taking the time to give up updates.

Keeping you in our prayers, friend.

God bless you and keep you.

Thanks for the updates all the time Darlene. I don't always have time to comment, but I come here each day to check on how you are all doing.
I think all the praying may be paying off!
I know you guys missed your traditional Christmas...but what better gift than the positive prognosis you have in Mark's recovery.
I hope your Lupus goes into remission again, after this trauma has caused you a flare up. Maybe when things settle down you can concentrate on getting your health back in order.
Breezy is just beautiful, and hopefully she may be reunited for a visit with Mark soon....!
Take care and you are all still in my prayers.

Yay, I'm glad to hear that things aren't getting worse. A scar on the foot is small potatoes compared with clots or a negative result on a CT scan.

What can I do? I feel so close, but so un-helpful.

Bunches of love to you and yours.
