San Francisco ~*~ The Hotel

Driving up to the beautiful Fairmont felt like a luxurious Christmas Celebration and the excitement began.

Every part of the building was a sculpture all it's own. This one loomed at the entrance.

A real honest to goodness revolving door! I had the idea to go around and around more than once, but I thought I would embarrass myself. Lo and behold, there were about 10 business men sitting in the lobby, so I was so glad to have gracefully turned it once, only to have the door behind me shove my behind.

I think my mouth dropped open at the sight of the lobby. These pillars were everywhere and beautiful marbel floors to match. There wasn't one place your eye could go and not see something fabulous.

After registering, we were ushered to the "Grand Staircase" Now, most people would be delighted to climb these storybook stairs, but I looked at them and moaned....until my daughter reminded me that this was the 21st century and they had elevators.

Beautiful as they were, my legs suddenly felt like lead and I was grateful for the more modern source of upward travel :)

So, leaving the elevator on the 6th floor, we were ready for a rest and the excitement rose to see our room....you will just have to be patient to see that tomorrow.

It doesn't look a lot like the Motel 6. My last trip I stayed at, I think, the Stanford Court, also a cool place.
Enjoy!
Your daughter is beautiful.

We had a great time in SF when we spent a week there for our 25th anniversary. We went around visiting all the fabulous hotels - the Fairmont is stunning, and I loved looking at that staircase, imagining all the "fancy people" who had come sweeping down over the years to attend parties and balls.

Such fun to visit with your daughter :)

How lovely! I stayed at this hotel in 1990 and only lived about 40 minutes away from the city. Wow... can't believe it was so long ago. It's still one of my favorite hotels of all. Such great photos!!

This looks like a dream. I can't wait to see more.

(Your urge to go round and round in the revolving door reminds me of Buddy in "Elf") :D

What absolutely wonderful photos. The Fairmont is indeed a lovely place. I haven't been to your blog in a bit...Not had a chance to visit that many at all. This is such a very busy time of year. But every time I come here, I see something beautiful.

i love the graceful 'bow' in the middle of the stair way - worn away? surely your use of the elevators ('lifts' here in the u.k.) was just to save their magnificence from further wear and tear? Either that or you were just making sure you maintained your voluptuous curves - wouldn't want to wear THOSE out with too much stair walking either, would you? ;-)
