Self Portrait Challenge ~ Glamour

Webster's defines glamour as ~ a seemingly mysterious allure; bewitching charm.
Rogets Thesaurus says it is ~ attraction, magnetism, charismatic presence.

I didn't read how these 2 sources defined glamour until after I played with my picture. But, I was sure hoping that the words 'beautiful' or 'pretty' was not part of it and was relieved to see that they weren't. I believe many people are glamorous and I was glad to see words like; mysterious, magnetism, charm & and something to do with a person's presence.

I dislike the superficial parts of our world, the stereotypes and the fact that only certain people 'fit' the requirements. A 20/20 special once had a segment on the fact that scientist have narrowed down facial attributes that are considered beautiful. SCIENTISTS!....you can be screened by a machine and it tells you what parts of you are beautiful........and what parts of you are not. Why do we need to know this?

So, if you find any part of yourself fitting even a fraction of these definitions, from these 2 very credible sources, in you...than YOU are GLAMOROUS!

In my picture, I see mysterious allure and a charismatic presence...(I'm going to make my hubby call me Lady Glamour all day today :D

What part of these definitions are in you ?

Hi Darlene,
I remember coming across the word "glamour" in a novel about King Arthur describing Morgan La Fee. It seemed to be associated with witches and sorcery in general which ties in with your definition. That photo definitely looks glamorous.
It's fascinating to take a closer look at everyday words, words we take for granted, isn't it?.
Me and glamour don't belong in the same sentence, I'm afraid. I have charm but no magnetism or mystery: I wish...What I am is generous, kind and approachable also disorganised, forgetful but we won't go there...
My blogroll's now working again so I can now link to you. I too am enjoying the connection,
hugs,
Angela

Awesome photo, Lady Glamour. :) I've been meaning to check out your blog for a while as I often see you at my other favorites. Today when I read that the first thing you do with a new book is smell it, I knew the day had come. That's the first thing I do as well..some books have the smell, some don't. School textbooks are the best, I think.

I'm not as weird and creepy as I sound right now. lol Nice to meet you.

funny story: yesterday i was in my short story workshop and my teacher (whom i adore) said, "what's the connection between grammar, magic, the academy awards, and today's object lesson?"

it turns out that grammar is the old scots term for magic - words were the most powerful, magical things to them - and later, grammar split and became the singular term that we know now...one of its offshoots was 'glamour'. (i think this may be what angela's talking about...)

i think it's perfectly fitting that a goddess of a woman as yourself (that photo CONFIRMS what i've suspected all along!! :) ) is glamourous....and magical...and powerful with words....

((LOVE YOU))

I agree that it's so great that they actually mentioned personality...

I happen to think I'm pretty charming, too :)

I think this photo of you definitely fits all the descriptions of beauty - but the thing about you is that not only are you all those things on the outside but inside you radiate a phenomenal sense of grace and inner beauty as well. I have a horrible time with image and some day I will learn to let go and just realize I am me and this is all there is.
XOXO

Glamorous and mysterious. I love how you've embellished the photo; it makes you look like Cleopatra as a love child of the 60s.

Definitly a slam dunk on glamour, scientific or not ;-)

That's fabulous that you're telling your hubby your new nickname. I suspect he'll like it :)

You're right about glamour being more intangible than the beauty formula discerned by scientists. My three year old niece is incredibly glamorous (just ask her!) whether she's in little overalls or her footie pajamas.

You kinda look like Kate Bush here. And that's a good thing.

Glamorous, beautiful and charming!
These words would describe a little part of everyone we meet.
I agree, scientists are silly with their measurements...what about a laugh, a mannerism, a crooked tooth that is totally appropriate on some people. A client at the spa here who is a local cosmetic dentist, just went to a talk out in BC that was addressing this very issue...so many people are buying "chiclet" smiles, and we are becoming this society of straight white teeth. Since when is a natural healthy smile out of style?
Love your site :)

Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, but glamor is in the mind. It's more about presentation, attitude, knowledge, and grace than appearance.

Hello Lady Glamour:)

What a interesting post (and beautiful photo). You definitely are bewtiching and beautiful on the outside. And your inner beauty glows from your words.

I would never think of myself as glamorous but at times can see the inner beauty others comment on. I like my earthiness, my vibrancy and my appreciation of the little joys in life.

And guess that all counts :)

Truely magical and charming...and extremely beautiful photo. You are right, we do NOT need to see photos and have scientists define what qualifies as true beauty. We do indeed need to look at the entire picture, inside and out of a person.
