Autumn's Last Leaf

I wrote this for all of those moments that we get lost in life, feel like all we do is blend in and all we really want, is to be uniquely individual.

The wind forces
unwanted movement
pushing one branch
against another.
And the place
where I am sustained,
the place that holds
all my strength,
finally releases
and I am falling.
For one brief moment,
I am free.
Absolved of expectations,
relieved of duties,
my stationary existence
banished and exhausted,
I descend with grace.
Now, the earth
is my anchor
and I rest atop
my previous companions,
that have transformed
and voice, no longer.
The warmth of the sun
is peaceful on my face,
and my edges dry
and start to curl.
I dream
I am discarded,
once again
to resemble
all the others.
but, in this moment,
I lay among the flowers
and my beauty
is unforgettable.

Oh Darlene!!! This one made me cry.

I do not think I can ever witness any more leaves falling without thinking of all your beautiful words.

Darlene,
You have the wisest leaves...they know just what lessons I need to hear on any given day. Your words are wonderful...I appreciate them.

"For one brief moment,

I love this...I just love it.

Does writing words as beautiful as these leave you feeling as peaceful as they make me feel when I read them?

Thanks for the gorgeous picture and the awesome words. Fall always reminds me of the Nicole Nordeman song, Every Season, where she talks about how God works in our lives as the seasons pass, whether we look fresh and green and new, or brown and discarded, or covered with frozen snow. It helps me remember that (even here in New England) spring always comes :)

It is wonderful to see your words like this, words that encompass the freedom of change and of movement. Absolutely lovely, just like you. big hugs with laughter & tears ... your friend, JP

I love it, I'm going back to read it again. My husband and I just love the fall season, and he is a musician, that puts poetry to song, so I'm off to show this to him!
