The Choosing

Yesterday's path bare the worn footprints of my travels.
Impressions made in sand that have drifted back to sea.
Retracing my steps comes natural, a pulling in that direction.
The familiar struggle to walk that which is known
inviting me to cover ground with a sunken duplicate.

Today's steps promise places strange to my understanding
I cannot see but one foot in front of the other.
A fresh adventure, or more of just the same?
Shadows that do not follow, but advance.
A body formation with no heart to lead it.

Tomorrows road, a lantern glows off in the distance.
Offering me hope that is born from its light.
Illuminating small portions, the remainder left in dark.
My eyes grip that which beacons to me,
a passing moment, born from fear of the unknown.

Which road do you take and why?

First of all Darlene, you should be published! You are such an awesome writer.

Second, my path I take is today's step, because I just take one day at a time. I don't like to see tomorrow, it will come soon enough, I like to deal with just today. Why? you ask, because I tend to be a big worry wart so I just have to stick with the here and now or I drive myself (((nuts)))

Love to you!

Guardian,

"Courage isn't the absence of fear; it's the commitment to continue."

Fear is like a prison house of the soul that paralyzes you in the present and often forfeits your future.

God knows that fear is a destructive emotion, and He wants us to live "fear free." Did you know there are 366 "fear not" verses in the Bible! (That is like, one for every day of the year and an extra one for leap year! Wowza)

The Bible says "God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-discipline." You see, even though we will all experience fear, it doesn't have to become overwhelming or paralyze us. God is willing to empower us beyond it. You go girl! Each step brings new knowledge, like you said. I encourage you, keep moving that body in the direction of the unknown...

Love and hugs,

Tinker Bell

P.S. Some favorite quotes of mine:

"Nothing splendid has ever been achieved except by those who dared believe that something inside them was superior to circumstance."
—Bruce Barton

"A smooth sea never made a skillful mariner." Unknown

"You must do the things you think you can not do." - Eleanor Roosevelt

hmmm...i think i would choose "tomorrow's road" because i am always looking forward, craving adventure and being dreamy.

i know i need to work on sitting in the "now" and living more in the moment.

for you...i think there is much to look forward to. i imagine healing and fulfillment just around the corner. do you see it? get ready. ;)

love you,
baby sis

Yes, the HEALING road, don't we all need it???!! I'm going on the religious road but my tougue gets me in trouble, sometimes I curse too much, not 10 words per day but enough per month, too many! I want to take more time for God this month, that's my goal for this month! XO

In one of Rumi's poems he says "Don't move the way fear makes you move." I try to take the road that feels like "the most alive choice," the one that I feel the most genuine and heartfelt energy towards traveling down, but sometimes I'm not strong enough to do that, and then I tread down paths that I know aren't the ones that will bring me the most fulfillment, so then I have to backtrack and get back on the first.
p.s. I left you a comment a few posts down just in case you don't check!)

i choose tomorrow's path because yesterday's is so well worn it's looking muddy and i wouldn't want to get my pretty teal jewelled thongs all dirty.

fancy a walk? ;-)
