Sunday Scribblings ~*~ In the Last Hour...

~* In the last hour, I have finally laid down my weary body after three days of hard work. I closed my eyes and thought about this person and smiled. She is my very best friend, my VBFF. I got to spend a good portion of this work time with her and my Ma, as extremely helpful helpers. Emotionally and spiritually, it felt like more play than work because of them. Physically, I'm beat, sore muscles and tired from late nights. We don't take relationships lightly, do we? We realize and understand that each person that comes into our life, is not only a gift, but has a purpose for being there. We learn, we smooth out each other's rough spots and we bring important things to the table like, companionship, acceptance and accountability.
~* In the last hour, I thanked God for her and smiled. How can you be so opposite and so much alike at the same time? We have the "Three Bears" dynamic, whatever I am at the moment, like a pendulum, she swings the other way, and we meet somewhere in the middle and it's just right. If I am being irrational, she is completely rational and somehow, with force, she can pull me in her direction and bring clarity. I tell her regularly that she is a much better person than I, but I see true admiration in her eyes for me. Unfortunately, we did not spend our childhoods together, but we lived the same life. Practically year for year, we experienced the same trials and triumphs, just a few years apart and in different areas of this world. And the force of fate brought us together, just two doors down, about 11 years ago.
~* In the last hour, I smiled, really really big...and then fell asleep ;-)

I so agree with you that people come into our lives for a reason. This has been on my mind a lot the last week.

I try not to be envious of anyone or anything, envy is not a particularly useful or noble sentiment/thought. Having said that, I envy your friendship. I will admit that I've gone through my whole life without any close friends (for the purpose of this discussion I leave out lovers, who fall into a special category). Outside my family (both blood and marriage based) I have virtually no contact with anyone (other than blogging). Even within my family the range of regular contact is narrow.

My late mother was a sad loner, and although sweet to the core she was unable to express warmth and affection to her kids. Even late in life if she and I hugged there was a sort of nervousness about it. Her personality left all 6 of us pretty much the same (our father died very young).

When I see "buddy" films and even commercials, when I read books involving strong friendship, or otherwise become aware of such relationships, I feel very wistful. I wonder at times if these things are just part of the mythmaking of our society. You have assured me this is not true (as, in truth, have others).

Anyway, thanks for your post.

What a lovely tribute! I hope you encourage your friend to read it.

Those kind of friends are like precious jewels. Mine doesn't live in my home town anymore but came for a visit this summer. The time together was so sweet and made me wish she was closer. Thank goodness for email!

That was a touching post. We all need a best friend to see us through everyday and be there to balance and support each other. I agree that people come in to our lives for a reason and that is such a blessing in itself.
